Mar 26, 2018 — Reaching the trailhead for Cleopatra Wash requires 4WD for the last half mile or so, but mid-clearance can make it at least until that point. Cleopatra Wash doesn't have much visitation, but it does seem to get attention, despite its remoteness in Lake Mead NRA. The hike itself is an easy descent through a sandy wash, with lots of great colors and tall volcanic cliff faces. There's a cool bit of narrows toward the end of the hike as well, but it's a tame hike until just before the wash opens up into Lake Mead.
For those interested in a Class 2 addition required to reach Lake Mead, the very last section has a steep dryfall before the lake, avoidable on either side. I scrambled along the rim of west side of the canyon that leads down into the cove below. You can also scramble up the east side for a more fun and difficult scramble.
