Sep 18, 2016 — Deseret Peak is a nice ultra-prominent peak just far enough from Salt Lake City to restrict crowds, and is the high point of the Stansbury Mountains. The mountain is most commonly hiked using a loop trail from the north, staring at the Loop Campground. From the trailhead I started up the Mill Fork Trail, which went through a series of pretty meadows and led to the south ridge of Deseret Peak. Most of the steep climbing over, I continued along the trail to the summit, then followed the Stansbury Crest Trail north until I hit the Dry Lake Trail junction. This trail led east and descended pretty slopes back to the trailhead. The views on the way back were pretty great.
