Jun 21, 2019 — Devil's Garden Outstanding Natural Area is more of a scenic area than a hike, but it's worth a detour if you're driving along Hole in the Rock Road. From the popular trailhead, I wandered around on the established trails, enjoying the pretty hoodoos and the notably thin and cool Metate Natural Arch. There are a bunch of smaller arches and interesting unnamed features, so exploring the area and choosing your own adventure is most of the fun. After checking out the majority of the formations around the trailhead, I continued on convoluted social trails to the south through a wash and navigated up to a pretty scenic overlook, which I found to be a nice addition to the hike.
