Mar 22, 2016 — Eagle Cliff Miner's Cabin is the historic remains of a well-preserved homestead. It can be reached by either Split Rock or Desert Queen Mine, and it has a fairly easily followed trail from either direction. We reached the cabin from Desert Queen Mine a year later via a more adventurous and contrived loop route, but this route comes from the south.
Starting from Split Rock, I took the Split Rock Trail north and left it to continue north when the loop headed back south. Instead I located a social trail that headed deeper into the boulders of Joshua Tree, ascending along Class 2 terrain up a slope and onto higher ground. Here the terrain flattened a bit and I continued north to the left side of a bouldery cliff where the entrance door to the cabin still stands. Within are all sorts of old gear, from pots and pans to shelves and windows. It's a unique spot and I really hope people don't take any of the historic items from within.
