Apr 11, 2020 — Little Chuckwalla Mountains High Point was a nice add-on peak after getting the two main objectives people go for along the Bradshaw Trail Road (Black Butte and Chuckwalla Peak). The Bradshaw Trail was in good shape, except for the first few miles if coming in from the west, where low clearance may have some difficulty. The spur from Bradshaw Trail up to our trailhead started off fine, but we were quickly stopped by a wash-out at coordinates 33.4359, -115.04451. We had to drive around the road washout as a workaround, requiring mid-clearance and 4WD to get through some sand. Not being able to get past this would add a few miles to the hike. We took a right at a junction, and in hindsight, going left would have shortened the hike a little bit by leading to an approach from the south rather than our chosen eastern approach, but I was happy with our route overall.
We eventually got to a spot the car would not be able to continue through without a risk of a flat, and hiked along the road from there. At another junction in the road, we headed left and continued on an old mining road until we decided to head up the bouldery Class 2 south slope. The slope led to a false summit and a Class 2+ move to get over a minor cliff band. We dipped down to the saddle with the Little Chuckwalla Mountains High Point, and reascended to the peak, where the desert views were really nice.
