Nov 04, 2017 — Cerro Grande is a summit on the edge of the Valles Caldera. Although within Bandelier National Monument, Cerro Grande is set quite far from the main attractions. Any car can reach the trailhead and a nice trail leads through sparse coniferous forest heading north up the moderate southern slopes of the peak. The meadowy landscape hints at nice views through most of the ascent, and Cerro Grande's summit doesn't disappoint. The peak translates to literally "Big Hill", and that's what it is. A big hill. But don't let that feel like a deterrent, the hike is quite nice.
Please consider helping me out if you find my site useful. I'm not sponsored, so all site fees are out-of-pocket and my time preparing these trip reports is unpaid. You can also hire me as a web developer. I really appreciate it!
If you find my site helpful, please help me replace my many broken cameras, fund my website fees (hosting, APIs, security), or just support my countless hours of work. I pay for all expenses myself, and all trip reports I post are unpaid and unsponsored, so any support is really appreciated!
