Get to the parking lot early. There is very limited parking and signed warning of private property (towing enforced).
Jun 27, 2015 — A lesser-traveled range, expect to summit five Adirondack Mountains in this all-day excursion. A boring start through muddy, over-traveled trails leads to an easy-to-miss right turn toward Macomb Peak before a campground. Follow the steady incline until you see a crumbly, but fun, 3rd class scramble. At the summit, head north toward South Dix and take the short detour to East Dix. All trails are easy to follow, even with the encroaching vegetation and ruthlessly hard Dacks pine tree branches. Then, follow fairly straightforward hiking through somewhat unmaintained trails to Hough and finally to Dix and its outstanding views. Continue to Hunter Pass and go down the gully for a boring few miles with unremarkable terrain and complete the loop. This hike is typical for New York mountain hiking: ruthless ascents without bothering with witchbacks.
