Feb 27, 2019 — This was a great route to bag a few peaks near the Hoover Dam. The views are stunning throughout the whole day, and it ends with a hot spring. Unlike the technical Motorcycle/Telephone Canyons Loop, this route takes the high roads via scrambling and leaves the ropes behind, but visits a lot of the highlights from that route.
Starting from the ever-growing in popularity gold Strike Canyon Trailhead (as seen from the absurd amount of trash and graffiti in the canyon, screw you people), head down until the junction with Telephone Canyon. To the left is Hoover Peak, and to the ridge is Goldstrike Mountain. Shortly after heading up Telephone Canyon, take a Class 2 gully to the ridge where you'll have awesome views of the Colorado River and Boy Scout Canyon to the south. Pass over Peak 2125 (Hoover Dam Bridge Overlook, labeled as such on the summit register), three small bumps and an sketchy Class 3 downclimb, and then to the base of Goldstrike Mountain. There is a cliff band barring direct access, but a weakess just to the right of the ridge makes for a nice Class 3 scramble to the summit. Descend using the drainage just east of the summit leaving the drainage to avoid a 15 foot dryfall and then heading down Telephone Canyon and its pretty and fun obstacles.
Back at the junction with Gold Strike Canyon, head up a south-draining canyon and scramble to the ridge just west of Hoover Peak to gain the summit with only a few Class 2+ moves. Finish up the day with a short hike down to Nevada and/or Gold Strike Hot Springs.
