Aug 16, 2016 — This hike takes the standard route up to Mount Sopris, which uses the Thomas Lakes Trail. The entire trail is well-maintained, though rocky at times. We headed south along the Thomas Lakes trail, which initially follows an old forest road. The dirt road narrows into a trail and approaches the gorgeous Thomas Lakes. From here we could see Mount Sopris above, and continued south to pick up the trail leading along the northeast ridge of the peak. The trail continued along the talus slope, with sporadic tundra. The views from the summit are delightful.
