Oct 08, 2012 — Follow a fairly easy trail that skirts the massive sheer rock faces of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. I did some dumb things for the sake of photos, but something about this ridiculously large dent in the Earth made me feel adventurous.
Two thousand foot cliffs overlook the Gunnison River, a thin water source that carved this amazing slit in western Colorado. Unlike the width of the Grand Canyon which leaves you without comprehending the scale, Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park exposes you to a vertical, dark wonderland where you can still grasp quite how big it is without feeling overwhelmed. Panoramic views of distant mountains and the almost eerie cracks the canyon forms when viewed from higher up inspire a well-worth visit.
Please consider helping me out if you find my site useful. I'm not sponsored, so all site fees are out-of-pocket and my time preparing these trip reports is unpaid. You can also hire me as a web developer. I really appreciate it!
If you find my site helpful, please help me replace my many broken cameras, fund my website fees (hosting, APIs, security), or just support my countless hours of work. I pay for all expenses myself, and all trip reports I post are unpaid and unsponsored, so any support is really appreciated!
