Oct 05, 2020 — Toano Range High Point is not a particularly interesting peak, but the summit view toward Sams Rock is nice. This area is remote and pleasant, but certainly not a "destination". You'll want to navigate here and follow this road to the end: 40.98323, -114.32308. 2WD likely can't make it all the way, but it would only add about an extra mile to the hike. Otherwise, the road is in good shape. I started from where I parked, continuing along the deteriorated road, heading east. The road deteriorated to a point that it no longer seemed to exist, and I continued on a pleasant slope, zig-zagging around trees. Soon, I entered a minor gully with deep pine needles and some small deadfall obstacles. I left the gully when I got annoyed and headed up the steep slope on its oppposite side. The slope was pleasant, though steep. Toward the top, I encountered some minor Class 2 talus. Soon I was on a flat and open section just south of the summit of Toano Range High Point. I continued up a minor barely Class 2 rock outcrop to the summit. Sams Rock to the north looked quite inviting, and Pilot Peak to the west seemed quite imposing through the wildfire smoky haze.
