Oct 24, 2018 — Wasson Peak is the high point of Saguaro National Park, and it has many trails that lead around the peak and to its summit. I hiked Wasson Peak via the King Canyon and Gould Mine Loop earlier this year and it was a bit more interesting, but really the landscape is similar regardless the route you take, saguaro cacti and desert views. We started from the El Camino del Cerro Trailhead, where we followed the pleasant Sweetwater Trail all the way up to Wasson Peak, slowly gaining elevation due to the mellow grade of the hike. The trail is well-defined and fairly popular. The Sweetwater Trail joins with other trails coming up from other directions once we reached the south ridge of Wasson Peak, and then the trail becomes slightly more steep along the summit ridge.
