I will always provide a free route map, but you can also download a hike/drive GPX to assist you and to help support my site. Before sharing my GPX tracks with others, please remember my site is a free resource and I'm charging nominal fees to offset my substantial costs.

Dec 19, 2021 — Weekapaug Mountain is the first big cluster of sandstone seen on the right when you enter Valley of Fire State Park that stacks up as a peak. We set out from the Petrified Log Trail and continued south past the log and toward the northern face of the peak. A cairn marked a Class 2 ramp for ascending the initial steep stuff, but you can easily find other, more difficult routes up. The slope continues as Class 2 as it ascends to the flatter terrain above. While we could have kept the route at Class 2, we pulled a Class 3 move here or there as we navigated the sandstone outcrops. It was tempting to ascend to a false summit on the left, but the true summit is farther back on the right and certainly didn't look taller until we were on top of it. Note the map imagery is incorrect on my attached map, but I left the route and high point where they should be, despite looking like they're hovering out in space.
We took a similar route down, but I condensed our routes into what I thought was the most straightforward.
Please consider helping me out if you find my site useful. I'm not sponsored, so all site fees are out-of-pocket and my time preparing these trip reports is unpaid. You can also hire me as a web developer. I really appreciate it!
If you find my site helpful, please help me replace my many broken cameras, fund my website fees (hosting, APIs, security), or just support my countless hours of work. I pay for all expenses myself, and all trip reports I post are unpaid and unsponsored, so any support is really appreciated!
