Aug 07, 2010 — The longest route maze of well-labeled trails and connector trails in a small section of the 4,000 acre Sourland Mountain Preserve is a combination of almost all the trails to form a nice loop, including the Roaring Brook Trail and the Ridge Trail. Both pass areas of large boulders, called the Devil's Half-Acre Boulders and the Roaring Rocks Boulders. Naturally, where there are boulders in New Jersey, there are also climbers. The few times I've been to the Sourland Mountain Preserve specifically to climb have been fun, but really this is just a nice place to hike and enjoy some quiet in the center of New Jersey.
There are shorter trail options that are worthwhile, but I find this loop to be my favorite since it visits the majority of the best stuff in the park.
Please consider helping me out if you find my site useful. I'm not sponsored, so all site fees are out-of-pocket and my time preparing these trip reports is unpaid. You can also hire me as a web developer. I really appreciate it!
If you find my site helpful, please help me replace my many broken cameras, fund my website fees (hosting, APIs, security), or just support my countless hours of work. I pay for all expenses myself, and all trip reports I post are unpaid and unsponsored, so any support is really appreciated!
