Oct 14, 2017 — Grandeur Peak is a summit that overlooks Salt Lake City. It's popular due to its easy access and steep west face many use for training. It's likely a better hike if you approach Grandeur Peak from the south via the Church Fork Trail rather than this brutal ascent, but I was feeling like getting some steep stuff in today. You could also turn this hike into a loop by ascending the west face trail, head dwon the Church Fork Trail, and then wrap around the southern base of the peak to complete the loop. One day I'll be back to do that loop.
I started up the dirty, loose, eroded trail which pretty much goes directly up Grandeur Peak. The trail becomes a bit more maintained and a lot less ugly shortly after, but it continues to be a steep ascent. Not much else to say about the hike except that it's popular and will get you most efficiently to Grandeur Peak. The views of the Salt Lake Valley and toward Mount Olympus are nice.
