Jul 15, 2016 — Hartshorne Woods County Park has always been my favorite NJ locals park, especially in my teens when I did more mountain biking. The trail system is really nicely laid and marked, the hilliness provides some views and ups and downs in an otherwise relatively flat section of the state, and Black Fish Cove is a nice spot to hang out on the Navesink River. This hike follows the Rocky Point Trail, and also the Grand Tour Trail. I recommend making a detour to check out the Sandy Hook Overlook, where a bench is set up. You can get there either by following the paved Battery Loop Trial, or take a short trail away from the Rocky Point Trail (see map).
The other trailhead is located on the west side of Hartshorne Woods, which is where the Laurel Ridge Trail is accessed, but this loop combo hike is my go-to in the park.

If you find my site helpful, please help me replace my many broken cameras, fund my website fees (hosting, APIs, security), or just support my countless hours of work. I pay for all expenses myself, and all trip reports I post are unpaid and unsponsored, so any support is really appreciated!
