May 31, 2022 — Mount Logan is a short hike on the Arizona Strip, best paired with Mount Trumbull nearby. The summit has a nice view toward a feature known as the Hells Hole Overlook, and the trail is in great shape. I felt a little silly driving all the way out here for such a short couple of hikes, but I guess it was nice to check out a new area. You'll likely pass a few cars on the overall well-graded road system in this region, but a car breakdown out here would be a pretty bad situation. Reaching the trailhead can be done by coming from St. George or from Colorado City. I outlined the driving directions to reach the Mount Trumbull trailhead in my Trumbull trip report. To get to Mount Logan, you basically start at the Mount Trumbull Trailhead and head south/southwest on Mount Logan Road here (36.3901, -113.15152), following the main road and ignoring spurs to reach the Mount Logan Trailhead. Google thinks the road ends here (36.34818, -113.20011), but it continues perfectly fine all the way. Likely any vehicle can make it to the Mount Trumbull Trailhead, but decent clearance is required to make it to Logan.
The views to the north from the Mount Logan Trailhead were nice, and I took them in for a minute and questioned my life decisions after driving for what felt like all day to get here. Ascending to Mount Logan is pretty trivial, a nice trail leading for only a bit over half a mile to the summit. The trail follows a pleasant rim and along the way there are some obscured views to the north. Before I knew it I was on Mount Logan, where I briefly enjoyed the views toward the eroded slopes of Hells Hole, along with the vastness of Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument to the south.
