Apr 28, 2016 — The Ramsey Cascades Trail starts along the Middle Prong of the Little Pigeon River. It's a wide and very slowly trail at first along an old roadbed, lovely river sounds accompanying the walk. The old roadbed ends a mile or so after starting the hike, continuing on a proper hiking trail, then ascends via the Ramsey Prong of the Little Pigeon River, complete with wooden log bridges and excellent dense foliage. The final two miles leads through old growth forest, apparently some of the oldest in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, protected from loggers when the area was designated as a national park. The trail gains steepness slightly and becomes more rocky as it ascends to the base of Ramsey Cascades. The Ramsey Cascades are the tallest waterfall in the park at over 100 feet.
Please consider helping me out if you find my site useful. I'm not sponsored, so all site fees are out-of-pocket and my time preparing these trip reports is unpaid. You can also hire me as a web developer. I really appreciate it!
If you find my site helpful, please help me replace my many broken cameras, fund my website fees (hosting, APIs, security), or just support my countless hours of work. I pay for all expenses myself, and all trip reports I post are unpaid and unsponsored, so any support is really appreciated!
