Jul 21, 2021 — Equinox Mountain is a big mountain outside of Manchester, Vermont. It's got a road leading to the summit, but of course hiking is always preferable. The trail starts past a red gate and follows an old roadbed for more than half of the hike up to Equinox Mountain. Nothing up to this point is particularly interesting, and I found myself rushing to get through it. Finally, I got to a sign that points away from the old roadbed, directing hikers to continue along a much prettier singletrack. This trail leads more steeply to the summit of Equinox Mountain through lush foliage typical of the peaks at this altitude. A couple of junctions offer the option to head farther east along another trail to reach Lookout Rock, but since I didn't have any views due to fog I didn't much see the point of checking it out. Instead I made my way to the summit, where I was greeted by a monastary (lol wut) and plenty of people who drove up. My views were poor due to fog, but it's a nice hike.
