Apr 25, 2020 — Ugly Brown Lump is a name that seems to be used by local peakbaggers to refer to Peak 6080, but I don't think it's that ugly or brown and deserving a name quite as mean. I'd say it's an uninspired grassy slope, but ends with a nice viewpoint toward Las Vegas and the La Madre Mountains. I met up with Jon Avery, a fellow Jersey peakbagger who moved to Nevada. He has a nice peak list he's working on that includes every peak visible from the Stratosphere in Vegas. We had some great conversation and he was a great hiking buddy. Looking forward to more, and to bond about Wawa, haha.
The trailhead started at the top of an absurdly bad road, but our start point was fine for probably any vehicle. We followed the bad road through a wash, and continued to do so as it bent southwest into a cut in the wash's wall. We left the road shortly after, beelining to the most protruding grassy slope. This slope was really just a mellow walk up a hill. We got some nice views of the La Madre Mountains, a glimpse of Red Rock Canyon, and of course the Las Vegas sprawl. We descended by continuing along the ridge and locating a way down, but I definitely would recommend just returning the way you came on the mellow slope. I removed our descent from my attached map because we disliked our descent so much.
