Jul 15, 2019 — West Mountain definitely looked unpleasant from its base, so much so that I almost decided to skip it. However, after a particularly steep and rocky ATV road ascent to the southern ridgeline of West Mountain, I was happy to find great views the rest of the hike. I was particularly interested in how expansive the views of the Wasatch Front were to the east, where I could see many of my favorite SLC peaks, as well as Utah Lake to the west. The ridgeline dropped a few hundred feet to a saddle before ascending to the summit. There are two points labeled "West Mountain", the lower one farther north, but seemingly mistaken for the high point due to the radio towers on top.
