Introduction to the Southern Wasatch + Wasatch Plateau

The southern Wasatch Mountains in Utah are a majestic and scenic subrange of the larger Wasatch Range. Stretching south from Salt Lake City to central Utah, the southern Wasatch Mountains offer a diverse and stunning landscape. The mountains are known for their towering peaks, deep canyons, and picturesque alpine meadows. Mt. Nebo is the highest peak in the southern Wasatch Mountains.

The region is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts, offering a wide range of recreational activities year-round. In the summer, hikers and backpackers explore the numerous trails that wind through the mountains, leading to alpine lakes, wildflower-filled meadows, and hidden waterfalls. Mountain biking and rock climbing are also popular pursuits in the area. During the winter, the southern Wasatch Mountains transform into a winter wonderland, attracting skiers and snowboarders to its world-class resorts, including Snowbird, Alta, Brighton, and Solitude.

Rising to an elevation of around 10,000 feet (3,000 meters), the Wasatch Plateau is part of the larger Wasatch Mountain Range. The plateau is characterized by rolling hills, forested slopes, and deep canyons, creating a picturesque landscape. It is home to numerous lakes, streams, and reservoirs. One of the notable features of the Wasatch Plateau is its unique geology. The plateau is made up of sedimentary rock formations, including sandstone, limestone, and shale, which have been sculpted over millions of years by erosion and geological forces. The result is a diverse range of geological features, such as canyons, cliffs, and mesas.
